Narratives in a Nutshell – short stories have always been a popular sub-genre of prose. This collection of recent short stories in English presents sample texts by writers from Great Britain and the Anglophone world. We will briefly discuss the history of the short story and its development, before we analyse our selection of texts, all showing different aspects of this so-called “chameleon” of literature. Be prepared to read a great deal! Do not hesitate to voice your opinion (by taking part in discussions in class). You will also have to hand in two assignments during the semester. Additionally, you can write a long critical essay, if you like. A Reader will be available in Unser Kopierladen, Reckhammerweg, at the start of the semester. |
