A Survey of American History - Einzelansicht

Studying textual and other documents of the past five centuries, we will examine major historical developments of North America as well as the emergence and evolution of cultural key concepts. Historical events and contemporary reactions to them will be linked to issues in current cultural debates, illustrating the roots of some of today's U.S. foreign and domestic policies. Rather than going over lists of presidents, wars, or dates, we shall concentrate on the development of issues like immigration, the settlement of the West, American Imperialism, Slavery, etc.

Be advised that this course requires a substantial amount of reading. Should you feel you do not have sufficient time to complete the readings for each week, you might want to look for a different class.
