The course intends to take a broad aim and attempts to cover the following aspects of Britain in an informative and interesting way: History British politics and government Geography Britain’s influence on modern music and culture British Education system Everyday life and people British press and media British attitudes and beliefs Multi-cultural Britain British institutions What is modern Britain? We will be testing various ways of transmitting knowledge in the cultural studies field in broad way and hopefully arriving at some useful conclusions. If we have a large demand for this course, i.e 40 + students, we will be employing a lecture style approach to the seminar and approximately one week will be devoted to each of the above topics, followed by an extensive test at the end of the course. If, however, numbers are smaller, students will have the opportunity of expanding these areas by carrying out ongoing assignments throughout the semester and giving a short, but well prepared presentation towards the end of the course. Active participation and regular attendance will also be a pre-requisite for the issuing of a "Schein". |
