What is human language? What is its relationship to society i.e. social relations? Two basic questions related to Philosophy of Language - or the endeavour that will scrutinize spoken word in its relation to "things in the world", rather than to those "things in our heads". In this course, the key concepts advanced by the best minds in the field will be critically examined - a task that is feasible; even if one brings with a minimal philosophical background. A reader will be made available during the first week of the semester. |
