In the course of this seminar we will talk about the social interactions going on in the classroom. The roles of the two intervening parties, namely the teacher and the pupil, and the effects that different teaching methods have on either of them will be analysed. We will hence pay special attention to the social effects of traditional teaching methods, group work but also individualized methods such as the use of learning software. The aim of the course is to mix theory with practical trial-and-error activities. We will combine the reading of texts with a hands-on approach to the teaching methods and through in-class simulations of classroom situations. The study of films and the reading of small texts that will foster discussion on the roles and/or the acceptable use of media will help us to gain a better understanding of the topic. A reader containing the obligatory texts will be available at the copy-shop (Reckhammerweg) before the beginning of the semester. Please prepare the first text before the first session. |
