ICC is described as the main goal of foreign language teaching in the Common European Framework. Intercultural Communicative Competence is a catchy term that is composed of basically three parts that will be looked at in more detail in the course of the seminar. The first part of the course will deal with an introduction of different concepts and models of culture, followed by the presentation of different models of communication. Then the course will take a turn and focus on the reality of teachers; take a look at intercultural aspects of the classroom. We will deal with the challenges and opportunities of and arising from multicultural classrooms and with the specific role of English as a foreign language but also as lingua franca worldwide. The aim is to work on theoretical concepts that we'll always link back into practice by examples from textbooks, by the development of tasks and so forth. Making sure that the third aspect, competence, will also be thoroughly dealt with. A reader providing material will be made available at the beginning of the semester at the copy shop Reckhammerweg. |
