Inter-American relations have a long history, starting in colonial times until today. About 1.5 million Hispanics legally enter the U.S. each year (U.S. Census Bureau), triggering a growing discontent in the Anglo-American population. The U.S.-Mexican border is controversially discussed in the media. This class will look at how both cultures are perceived and how the border is represented in contemporary literature. We will examine both, fictional and non-fictional texts and discuss the possibility of inter-cultural mediation. |
