This course is intended for students wishing to improve written language skills at this advanced level. The novel SATURDAY by Ian McEwan will serve as a reader through approximately the first third of the course and will be the focal point for discussion and essay writing. In this way the novel will also serve as a model of good writing. Matters of grammar, lexis and style will also be covered in a pragmatic, "hands-on" way throughout the course and we will be looking at ways of improving the organisation and clarity of texts we produce. Students will be expected to complete all assignments punctually and to the required standard in order to obtain their "Schein". Please note: Students are required to buy Saturday by Ian McEwan. London: Jonathan Cape, 2005. 279 p. (ISBN: 0224072994). |
