During this one hour session, students will be encouraged to provide a sociolinguistic introduction to their favourite 19th century English novel, drama or a poem, geographically placed in the Empire. Therefore, creative and argumentative hotheads are encouraged to establish the influence of external factors in day-to-day life, precisely in a reflection of social reality - creative writing at times of colonial wars and plunder. Recommended warm-up: "George Eliot's Silas Marner" http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/b00q4310 |
