Ever since the era of Modernism, time has been popular as a literary concept with writers from around the world. This course will explore the way in which the flow of time, the uses of time, and the experience of time are conceptualised in postmodern literature. The impact of technological and social developments on these notions is here of major importance and will also be a central focus of the course. We will be reading a number of theoretical texts on the connection of time and literature and subsequently use these to analyse various texts. A reader will be available at the copy-shop on Reckhammerweg at the beginning of the semester. We will also read the following novels: - Martin Amis - Time's Arrow - Audrey Niffenegger - The Time Traveler's Wife |
