In a world of multiple tongues contact induced variation has become a prime focus of linguistic investigation. Language been a life-all encompassing necessity, language-contact too does manifest itself in a great variety of fields such as in language acquisition, discourse, language policies and thereby its social functions and more. As a result, in this course the student will find an integrated, however introductory overview to the subject. A course reader will be made available within the first week of the course. For the reading- test scheduled for the first session, please read: Thomason, Sarah G. "Language Contact". URL: www-personal.umich.edu/~thomason/temp/lgcont1.pdf |
