Rhetoric as the oldest technique of discourse - both in speaking and writing - has been successfully used through centuries to structure public and private communication. In more recent times it has mainly become a tool for analyzing and criticizing texts. The course at hand is built on three pillars: 1. The basics of classical rhetoric - Aristotle's theory of persuasion and the system of rhetorical tropes and figures according to Quintilian and Plett 2. A small collection of historical speeches, which will be analyzed 3. The writing and actively performing of own texts. This is an offer to all students who in their future will have to present mental structures via language without boring an audience to death. A reader will be available at the end of May in the copy shop at Reckhammerweg. |
