The aim of this course is to improve students' translation skills by giving them the opportunity to translate German texts from various spheres of life (e.g. journalism, culture, literature, business) into English. Students will sometimes be allowed to translate texts at home with the help of a dictionary, sometimes in class without a dictionary. Any problems that arise in connection with the translation process will be discussed in class, as will possible strategies for solving these problems. Students will be expected to attend the course regularly, take an active part in classroom activities and to hand in all home assignments on time. At the end of the semester there will be a written exam. Please pick up the relevant materials from the copy shop (Kopiersysteme Ewald Priebe, Segerothstr. 81) shortly before the semester begins. |
