The way children learn a foreign language depends on their developmental stage. Thus ways children in primary school are different from ways children learn in secondary school.
As a general rule it can be assumed that the younger the children are, the more holistic learners they will be. The main aim of this course is to take a closer look at some of the language learning/teaching material available in Germany, authentic materials and new media. Based on current theories of acquiring and learning a second language, we will examine how to use these materials in a ways that meet the needs of young learners in primary school. The course will be a mix of theory and practice, i.e. will include reflections on current literature in the field but will also be very "hands on" in phases.
