The main goal of using technology in the language classroom is to provide learners with opportunities to experience the language in authentic settings and to encounter the culture of the target language. Taking the traditional audio-lingual "language labs" from the 1960s and 70s as a starting point, this seminar will explore how technology, e.g. the internet (web 2.0), software, chatrooms, movies or web page creation, can help to expose learners to the language in a meaningful way. Thus, we will not only analyse recent trends in CALL but also discuss how learning through technology can be evaluated. Additionally, we will ask ourselves how teachers can successfully integrate technology into the learning process and examine ways of getting learners actively involved. Active participation will be required of all students.
