Teachers today have to face a more and more heterogeneous student population since students differ in terms of language background, learning speed, learning ability and motivation. Looking at different learner types, who differ in readiness, interest, and learning profiles, this course will focus on possibilities of how teachers can deal with mixed-intelligence, mixed-ability classes and how teachers can promote the relationship between motivation and individual differentiation among learner groups in the foreign language classroom. A range of possibilities and strategies will be tried out and discussed, such as promoting literary, intercultural and linguistic proficiency in mixed-ability classes, internal differentiation and individualization through various open forms of teaching and by integrating Web 2.0 into the EFL classroom. |
