“Let's be creative and build a wiki” - this might be the most appropriate motto for this class. We shall, of course, investigate, how new technologies can be used to provide a basis for flexible (innovative) learning scenarios in the language classroom. However, the seminar will also be run on a "hands-on principle". Students will be given the chance to discover by themselves the advantages and disadvantages of digital tools in language learning by working on small projects to be presented in class. The joint outcome envisaged is the collaborative creation of a wiki on New Technologies in Language Learning.
On an academic level, this seminar will investigate examples of computer software and internet materials for language learning and establish criteria for innovative and motivating uses of new technologies in this area. Options, such as social platforms, blogs, podcasting and the use of wikis in language learning, will be aspect to be investigated. The theoretical principles of second language acquisition with a focus on TBL (Task-Based Learning) will be discussed, and samples of good practice with a particular focus on project-based learning – will be identified.
