Indigenous Australian author, filmmaker and artist Philip McLaren has published six novels to date; his first novel Sweet Water, Stolen Land won the David Unaipon Aaward for Black Australian writing. McLaren is proud descendant of the Kamilaroi people from the northwestern area of New South Wales who has become a major voice of Indigenous Australia. He holds a DCA degree from Sydney University and was Postcolonial Writer in Residence at UDE in 2011. After an introduction to Australian Indigenous studies, we will read and analyse three of McLaren's novels. Students will have the chance to meet the author when he visits Essen during his 2013 European reading tour. McLaren's Essen visit is scheduled for 10-14 April; venue and further information will be announced via the Postcolonial Studies website.
Some used copies of the novels may be ordered via amazon; a number of books will be ordered from Australia and should be available at Frau Forstreuter’s office from end of March. A reader containing a selection of further texts, both primary and secondary, will be available from 5 April 2013 at Copyshop Priebe (Segerothstr.).
