Current thinking in SLA methodology favours knowledge construction rather than simple instructivist learning as an appropriate paradigm for language learning. Within this context, collaborative learning as well as project-based and task-oriented scenarios have often been regarded as the real forte of digital media, in particular when the web 2.0 tools and collaborative networks are concerned. Such approaches to learning are also rooted in the output hypothesis, which argue that learners should actively engage themselves in the creation of „comprehensible output“ in order to develop linguistically and cognitively. In this seminar we will discuss the principle of output orientation and task-based/project-based approaches in language learning and consider how the digital tools can be integrated into such an approach. The seminar will follow a hands-on paradigm, and we will develop ideas for learning projects and samples of best practice in order to show how such an approach can contribute both to quality and quantity of product created by learners as well as their overall cognitive and linguistic growth. |
