This seminar will provide an introduction to Bollywood, i.e. Indian film. It will be taught in collaboration with Bombay-born Asian British writer and filmmaker AtimaSrivastava, who was Postcolonial Writer in Residence at UDE in 2012.
A selection of films will be placed on special hold in the library (Semesterapparat); students need to watch at least three movies before the beginning of the seminar. There will be a preliminary meeting in June (to be announced via Postcolonial Studies website; attendance compulsory). Films to be discussed include: Mother India (1957), Pakeezah (1971), Monsoon Wedding (2000), Lagaan (2001), and Slumdog Millionaire (2008).
A reader containing a selection of critical texts will be available from 3 June 2013 at Copyshop Priebe (Segerothstr. 81).
