Black British as well as Asian contributions to mainstream UK culture can be found in film, music and literature. This course offers an interdisciplinary analysis of different media and focuses on the topic “identity” and how it is constructed in a multicultural British environment. The influence of different cultures on British society will be analysed on a linguistic and cultural/literary basis. Students are required to read, listen to and watch all suggested media and participate actively in classes. Make sure that you have read Chris Cleave’s novel The Other Hand by the first and Pigeon English by David Kelman by the fourth session. Guiding questions as to watch out for while reading will be provided shortly beforehand.
