From a European perspective, the regular use of two or more languages seems to be the exception rather than the rule. From a global perspective, however, the perception of bilingualism and multilingualism changes: "bilingualism is present in practically every country of the world, in all classes of society, and in all age groups." (F. Grosjean) In the course of the seminar, we will explore how life with two languages is organised and discuss its implications on both the individual and the societal level. |
