Regional Integration in Southeast Asia - Einzelansicht

This course deals with the politics of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and of its member states. ASEAN is considered to be a prominent example of non-Western regional integration. We will explore its institutional set-up and unique way of multilateral cooperation. As promoting regional peace is one of ASEAN’s core aims, the class focuses on issues in regional security and the organization’s capacity to meet these challenges.

The class will be conducted in English. You are very welcome to join but please be aware that you need to be able to participate in classroom discussion, give your presentation and prepare set readings in English only.

You are expected to attend class regularly, to prepare weekly readings, to participate actively in classroom discussion and complete assignments. For successful completion of the course you are also required to give a presentation and hand in a term paper. You may write the term paper in either English or German.
