“The aim is learner autonomy. Learner autonomy is the only means possible” (Dam, 1990). Learner autonomy has become the essential aim of every educational process over the last few decades. But what does this concept mean and how can we foster learner autonomy in the foreign language classroom? This seminar sets out to explore and critically assess the various underlying conceptual differences of this slippery concept, thus encouraging students to develop their own understanding of this problematic term. Students will have the opportunity to take both a theoretical and a hands-on approach to achieve this aim. |
