„Jeder junge Mensch hat ohne Rücksicht auf seine wirtschaftliche Lage und Herkunft und sein Geschlecht ein Recht auf […] individuelle Förderung“ (Schulgesetz NRW, 2014, §1). Heterogeneity has always been omnipresent in (learning) groups and teaching has always had to take it into consideration though differentiation and individual learner support. In this seminar, we are going to look at language learning through the glasses of individual learner differences and how to tackle them with appropriate materials, methods, media and more. We will always keep one eye on actual teaching practice and the other one on research results so as to make sure that we not only know about ways of supporting learners‘ needs, but also raise our awareness for the factors that determine if such approaches actually work. The seminar as such will be student centred and in-class time will be reduced to free capacities for literature research and the creation of activities etc. This also ensures that there will be ample opportunities for participants to pursue topics they deem relevant and interesting. |
