This course is set in the context of action research in the foreign language classroom. Students will take a hands-on approach to designing book clubs and literature circles and reflect upon them in terms of high level text comprehension. We will address questions such as: What are cooperative learning approaches to teaching literature? How do they fit in a balanced reading program? How do we select material? How do we form, schedule and manage groups? Which response categories are suitable for deepening students’ text comprehension? What is the role of the teacher? How do we monitor and assess students’ progress? |
