Eleanor Rees is a poet whose work negotiates the local and the individual, doing so by means of personal and local symbols and metaphors that are at the same time accessible and ambigious. In addition to being a successful and critically acclaimed contemporary poet, Rees holds a PhD in creative writing and has done extensive research on the threshold between the local and the I. In the seminar, students will have the opportunity to be taught by a poet herself and experience a fusion of the practicalities of writing poetry today and the direct transfer into the academic realm. This is a unique opportunity! In the seminar, Eleanor Rees will discuss various examples of contemporary poetry and the approches to writing poetry of place and locality. The course curriculum is open to the wishes of the participants and may also include practical writing exercises and, of course, ample opportunity to ask a young, living poet about all aspects of her art!
