Reflections on Collaborative Literacy In this course we will read together, write together, and reflect upon our teaching practices. How do we construct meaning – on our own, in pairs, and in a larger group? How do we share our understanding of literary texts, listen to other peoples’ reactions and integrate different views? In experiencing collaborative literacy we will unearth our assumptions on reading, understanding, learning and teaching. We will find ways of exploring literary texts in greater depth. We will do this by continually examining teaching practices and assessing them in terms of their effectiveness for literature and language learning in the EFL classroom. What are productive reading, writing and discussion habits that guide students toward high level comprehension of texts? In so doing we will encourage each other to try a variety of reading, discussion and writing strategies. We will find out how teachers and peers can model reading comprehension processes. We will learn how to explicitly teach those strategies that we consider beneficial in guiding students to use their learning to read themselves, others and the world. |
