The course intends to take a broad aim and attempts to cover the following aspects of Britain in an informative and interesting way:
*History
*British politics and government
*Geography
*Britain's influence on modern music and culture
*British Education system
*Everyday life and people
*British press and media
*British attitudes and beliefs
*Multi-cultural Britain
*British institutions
*What is modern Britain?
We will be testing various ways of transmitting knowledge in the cultural studies field in broad way and hopefully arriving at some useful conclusions. We will look at ways of promoting cultural awareness in everyday and professional life. I will be employing a lecture style approach to the seminar and approximately one week will be devoted to each of the above topics, followed by an extensive test at the end of the course. However, students will have the opportunity of expanding these areas by carrying out ongoing assignments throughout the semester in the form of discussions. Active participation and regular attendance will also be required. |
