This lecture course, which is offered every semester, aims to provide an overview of American literature from its Native American beginnings to the present. The class will introduce you to the main periods of American literature and their cultural as well as historical contexts, to about sixty of the most prominent American authors, and to a variety of individual texts. Background lectures will be complemented by discussions of passages from all major literary genres.
Please note that this course – unlike the other courses in the Anglophone Studies Department – will already start on April 14. On April 21, April 28, and June 9 we will have double sessions from 4 to 8 p.m..
A reader containing all the texts with which we will deal in this class will be available from the copy shop at Reckhammerweg 4 by April 11, 2016. For the first class meeting on April 14, please read the texts listed under “Lecture 1” in the reader. There will be a midterm and a final exam. |
