In this seminar we shall deal with three key issues relevant to cultural studies and language learning methodology:
- we shall discuss aspects of cultural studies, distinguishing the concept from more traditional perceptions such as “Landeskunde", and explore the relationship between language and cultural context;
- we shall explore various concepts concerning intercultural and trans-cultural competence
- we shall explore how cultural studies and language learning can be integrated into meaningful learning experiences ;
- we will experience hands-on, how alternative forms of organising language classrooms by means of project-based learning scenarios can be of benefit to both teachers and learners.
- we will also consider, in which way cultural context can (must) be integrated into the linguistic study of language.
As far as the cultural context is concerned, the seminar will deal with aspects of Canadian and Australian Studies. These will include both historical and current issues. |
