As one of the most celebrated authors of our time, Neil Gaiman himself says that he tries to do something different with every book he writes. This mutability becomes obvious when one considers the diversity of his wide oeuvre, which includes children’s books, graphic novels, fairy tales, fantasy fiction and collections of short stories and myths.
In this seminar we will have a look at a variety of Gaiman’s works. A reader will be available at the copy shop on Reckhammerweg from early April onwards. Please also get a hold of the following novels which we are going to discuss in greater detail:
- Neverwhere
- American Gods
- The Graveyard Book
Topics to be discussed will include (but are not limited to) aspects such as identity, faith, mythology, urban geography, the uncanny, and memory. As this is a course for avid reader, please only sign up if you’re ready to tackle a heavy reading load. Active participation in class discussions is strongly encouraged. |
