Das Seminar befaßt sich mit sozio-politischen sowie sozio-ökonomischen Entwicklungsherausforderungen der Länder Ostasiens aus komparativer Perspektive. Das Seminar beginnt mit einer Einführung in die hierzu vorliegenden Theoriemodellbildungen und einem Überblick über den aktuellen Forschungsstand. Darauf aufbauend sollen sieben Themenblöcke untersucht werden - Urbanisierung; Umwelt/Green Growth/Nachhaltigkeit; Tradition/Moderne; demographischer Wandel/alternde Gesellschaft; Arbeitsmarkt/Arbeitsmigration; Protestbewegungen/NGOs; Regionalisierung/Globalisierung. Je Themenblock sind zwei Sitzungen vorgesehen. Die erste Sitzung dient der theoriegeleiteten Annäherung an das jeweilige Themenfeld und der Diskussion von Strukturen und Prozessen in Ostasien, die zweite Sitzung vertieft dies mit Fallstudien zu China/Japan/Korea. Pflichtlektüre und Materialien werden über Moodle II zur Verfügung gestellt; weitere Themen werden basierend auf den Motivationsbriefs der Studierenden eingebaut.
