Course description:
This seminar is devoted to the social structure and social transformation in contemporary China, introducing the theory-based and analytical issues on the current Chinese society. It incorporates three major topic blocks:
(1) Guanxi-system in China and its transition;
(2) Social welfare in China including old age security, child welfare and women’s social rights;
(3) Religions, social movements and minorities in China.
All these topics will be discussed and analyzed in connection with general sociological concepts and theories.
