American culture was and still is highly influenced by Christianity, first and foremost, Protestantism. Nowhere else in the Christian world the branch of religion entwines the ones of society, politics and economy in such a way that it would be impossible to fully understand them without considering the theological background which dates back to the formation of British Protestantism. Movements, such as The Great Awakening, the Holiness Movement or Pentecostalism, all find their roots in the theological thinking and religious day-to-day living of Puritanism, Baptism and Methodism. This course will examine the key concepts and events which shaped and still shape the character of the “one nation under God”. |
