The language of instruction of the seminar is English. However, German can be used during the seminar for posing questions, conducting seminar activities as well as when presenting the poster (and materials to prepare the poster).
Seminar description
This seminar examines the links between cultural diversity and social inequalities in contemporary societies, including Germany. During the first day of the block seminar (Friday, 22.02.19), consideration will be given to the meaning of culture, superdiversity and intersectionality, as well as on ethnic and national identity issues. In the second day (Saturday, 23.02.19), the seminar will then turn its attention to the analysis of how different forms of diversity (language, religion and socioeconomic status) may lead to the (re)production and perpetuation of inequalities. In third and final day of the seminar (Friday, 08.03.19), students will present a poster in groups of three (not graded). The individual poster (graded) should be submitted by March 31. Guidelines for the group and individual posters will be provided in the introductory meeting (Thursday, 21.02.19).
