Today William Shakespeare is mostly known as a writer of plays and Sonnets, with people forgetting about his two magnificent narrative poems “Venus and Adonis” and “The Rape of Lucrece”. However, these two texts were the only ones with Shakespeare’s name attached to them and were highly popular in his times. In this seminar, we will have a detailed look at “Venus and Adonis” and “The Rape of Lucrece” regarding their cultural, mythological, and literary contexts.
