This course offers an introduction to research methods in political science for students interested in qualitative approaches. It consists of a theoretical part - where the basic components of qualitative research will be introduced - and of an illustration part, aimed at showing how the main methods for qualitative research are concretely used. This will be based on a guided analysis of selected papers.
At the end of the course, the students will also have the chance to discuss their research proposals, in dedicated peer brainstorming sessions where everybody is welcomed to contribute. This exercise is preparatory to the conceptualisation of a research proposal, on which the final evaluation to obtain credits for this course is based, and to the preparation of the MA thesis outline.
The course is open to all IN-EAST students.
There are no specific requirements for this course, except a good command of the English language and course attendance. Although not compulsory, participation in the course is very recommended, as it allows the students to interact with the teacher and profitably use the material offered. |
