This intensive (block) seminar introduces students to key debates and hot topics in responsible artificial intelligence (AI).
Core themes include fairness, transparency, accountability, trust, and governance, with attention to their wider effects on people and society. The course uses current examples and case studies to discuss how AI systems are developed and deployed, the risks and limitations they bring, and what this means for responsible design and oversight.
The course will equip students to critically reflect on AI systems and their implications from both technical and social perspectives.
Coursework & Participation: - Deliver a presentation on a research paper and facilitate group discussion - Actively participate in interactive sessions and exercises - Submit a final essay based on insights gained
Format: Intensive course (Blockseminar) - Full-day Friday and half-day Saturday - Planning + Introduction Section (Online, Date TBA) - Session 1: Nov 28 & Nov 29 - Session 2: Dec 12 & Dec 13 Note seminars will be conducted in English
Audience: The seminar welcomes students from across disciplines who are interested in the social, technical, and ethical implications of AI.
