This seminar focusses on the cross-curricular objective of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD; Bildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung, BNE) in the context of English as a foreign language education. It thus offers students the opportunity to engage critically with global sustainability challenges and explore ways to integrate ESD into their English language teaching.
Students will investigate how ESD-related topics can be meaningfully addressed in English language teaching and collaboratively engage with questions such as:
- How does English language education contribute to ESD?
- How can global sustainability issues be explored through English language teaching?
- How can EFL teachers integrate the development of language competences and skills for tackling sustainability issues in their lessons?
- How can literary and non-fictional texts facilitate learners’ engagement with sustainability issues?
- How can language teaching foster critical reflection, inter- and transcultural understanding, and student engagement?
Students are expected to regularly participate, thoroughly prepare and actively contribute to each seminar session. Students participating in this seminar are expected to take an oral exam after completing the module FD 2. |
