The seminar focusses on critical approaches (feminist/postcolonial) to development and obstacles to development in post-conflict settings.
The broader development project and its various facets (socio-economic, political, institutional, historical) are critically reviewed until their culmination to the adoption of the Agenda 2030.

We will discuss the debates and narratives around development policies and issues, for example the rise of the "local turn" and the narrative of "women's empowerment", as well as the Western imaginary surrounding development. To do so, we will work with reports and documents from the UN and other agencies, but also with visual material and promotional images legitimizing and supporting development financing, projects and investments.

The focus here is on the implementation of the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
4 (Quality Education), 5 (Gender Equality), 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions). Synergies and trade-offs between these specific goals in case-study contexts will also be thematized.

The seminar will deal with selected case studies (presumably: Afghanistan, Libya, Nigeria, Colombia, Haiti), applying insights from feminist and postcolonial theories. In addition, solutions and alternatives based on these critical theories and new approaches to international relations will be discussed.

Die Anfertigung einer schriftlichen Prüfungsleistung ist sowohl auf Englisch als auch auf Deutsch möglich.

Für alle E3 Kurse gilt, dass Sie sich nicht beim Prüfungswesen anmelden können/müssen. In der Regel sind Sie mit der Zulassung zum Kurs zur Prüfung angemeldet.
