Overview
This course provides an introduction to the mathematical theory of fluid mechanics. As the main goal, we explore the existence theory for the unsteady incompressible Navier Stokes equations. These are nonlinear equations for which we seek to construct weak or distributional solutions. To aid us in our goal, however, we first analyse the existence theory for the easier linearised steady Stokes equations and their extensions to the steady but nonlinear Navier-Stokes equations.
