A geographic information system (GIS) is a system designed to capture, store, manage, analyze and present geodata.
This course gives you the skills and practice required to successfully use GIS in module 4 in the summer term.It is divided into two parts. Topics of the first part in February include the sources of statistical and geodata, the import of gps and excel data, the geocoding of data, projections, data classification as well as cartographic design and visualization methods.
The second part starts in April. It includes data collection methods using tablets and smartphones in the field, the analysis of data and the required statistical skills as well as the creation of digital elevation models.
To receive 5 credits, all meetings must be completed in February and April. The exam comprises practical homework (collecting, analyzing and visualizing module 4 related data) using ArcGIS.
