   Kommentar:

The seminar will be entirely taught online through a combination of live-streaming sessions and video- and audio-recorded presentations. Students are invited to enroll in Moodle where they can access slides, presentations, study materials, and complete individual assignments.      

The seminar will be held in English. However, German can be used during the seminar for posing questions, conducting seminar activities as well as when presenting the group and individual poster (and materials to prepare the posters).

Seminar description: The goal of this seminar is to understand the links between cultural diversity and social inequalities in contemporary societies, including Germany. During the first part of the seminar, consideration will be given to the meaning of culture, migration background, superdiversity and intersectionality, as well as to intergroup conflicts, such as ethnic prejudice and ethnic discrimination. In the second part of the seminar, attention will then turn to the analysis of how different forms of diversity (language, religion and socioeconomic status) may lead to the (re)production and perpetuation of inequalities. In the third and final part students will receive an introduction of basic research methods (structure interviews and data analysis) that can be used to collect and present their own data for the individual poster. The last two sessions will be dedicated to group poster presentations. Guidelines for the individual and group posters will be provided in the introductory meeting.
