This seminar aims to improve participants’ awareness of racism and discrimination in the school context, and understanding of protective factors that can buffer negative consequences on students. During the first three meetings (22.10; 29.10; & 05.11), key content covered includes; meaning of racism and discrimination; forms, sources, and behaviours of discrimination; underlying theories that explain why individuals and groups discriminate against each other. In the second part (12.11; 19.11; 26.11; 03.12; 10.12; 17.12; and 14.01), guided by a risk and resilience perspective, the seminar will turn its attention to individual-, family- and school-factors for anti-racism action. The last three sessions (21.01; 28.01; & 04.02) will be dedicated to the group poster presentations. Guidelines for the individual and group posters will be provided in the introductory meeting (15.10).
The seminar will be held in English. However, German can be used during the seminar for posing questions, conducting seminar activities as well as when presenting the group and individual posters (and materials to prepare the posters). |
