The Placement for Out-of-school Places of Learning (außerschulisches Berufsfeldpraktikum) is an obligatory part of university teacher training. It provides valuable insight into affine fields of work in English language outside of the school environment. On the one hand, this internship gives them the opportunity to decide if the teaching profession is really their profession. On the other hand, it enables students to gain experience that will be valuable to their future EFL- teaching.
The preparatory workshop (Blockseminar) at university informs students about different placement options in Germany and abroad and prepares them for their prospective tasks in conveying information to specific audiences. Then, the students carry out their activities at various institutions, apply this theoretical knowledge and gather their own experiences. At the end of the practical, the students are to complete a portfolio (Prüfungsleistung) that allows them to reflect on their experiences gained during the practical.
During the preparatory workshop, the students are expected to regularly participate as well as to create cooperatively a project and to present it. |
