Teaching Interculturality in the EFL Classroom
Intercultural learning and intercultural communicative competence are two of the main goals of English Language Teaching. In this seminar, key issues relevant to the intercultural dimension of English Language Teaching will be dealt with:
- aspects of cultural studies, distinguishing the concept from more traditional perceptions such as “Landeskunde", and explore the relationship between language and cultural context;
- concepts concerning intercultural and transcultural competence;
- exploring how the intercultural dimension can be integrated into modern communicative learning experiences;
- experience hands-on, how alternative forms of organising language classrooms, e.g. by means of culturally loaded task-based scenarios, can be of benefit to both teachers and learners.
As far as the cultural context is concerned, the seminar will try to embrace the broad cultural diversity of the Anglophone World. |
