Every learning group is heterogeneous to a certain level. In some classrooms the heterogeneity is more extreme than in others but homogeneity in school does not exist. In a foreign language classroom, heterogeneity creates many opportunities but also challenges. Therefore, every (EFL) teacher needs to know how to deal with heterogeneity. In this seminar, (1) various dimensions of heterogeneity are explored, (2) teacher heterogeneity is considered, (3) basic concepts of differentiation and inclusion as reactions to heterogeneity are discovered, and (4) practical implications for differentiated learning at all school types are practised. The goal of this seminar is to be prepared with essential knowledge and a practical tool kit for the future heterogeneous EFL classroom. Students are expected to regularly participate, thoroughly prepare and actively contribute to each meeting. Students participating in this seminar are expected to take an oral exam after completing the module FD 2 (oral exam in combination with the second seminar of this module). |
