(Re)learning morality through media: How (social) media teach us about right and wrong
In this seminar, we will discuss media psychological literature covering theories and empirical studies on how different media formats can contribute to human beings' moral socialization across the life span. Be it through morally ambiguous exemplars in narratives or large-scale moral outrage in social technologies, media can shape the way we think about right and wrong. Sometimes (social) media even engage us in missions to be moral, turning us into immoral actors. We will discuss this paradox and further "moral media effects" through interactive presentations and discussions. This seminar will close with an oral exam.
Please note that... 1) this seminar will be held in English 2) our first seminar session will be on Thursday, April, 25th, 2024.
