This course provides an engaging overview of pragmatic approaches to multimodality in socio-technically diverse online environments, bridging theory and practice. Students will explore a variety of digital genres, from traditional text-based formats to emergent, multimodal trends on participatory social media platforms. Throughout the course, students will analyze real-world data, engage with existing research, and examine diverse digital contexts. By focusing on text-based, multimodal, and interactional online communication, this course offers insights into contemporary digital discourses.
The course includes a reduced number of regular sessions alongside a guest lecture and workshop during calendar week 23. These special events will be conducted by Prof. Camilla Vasquez (University of South Florida), an internationally renowned expert in digital discourse.
